Thank you to everyone who prayed for Pope Leo XIV.
On 13 October 2026, at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, surgeons removed the lower lobe of his right lung. The Holy See Press Office said the operation was successful. The Pope was discharged on Saturday 17 October and returned to the Vatican. At the Angelus the next day he thanked the doctors, nurses and staff, and “all those who have prayed for me over these past few days”, saying, “I have truly felt your support.”
On 23 October his doctors said a follow-up chest X-ray confirmed that his recovery “is progressing very well”, and that tests had confirmed “no further treatment is necessary”. As a precaution they advised him not to travel to Assisi on 27 October.
Please keep praying for his full recovery and for the Church he serves.
