What is FIRES? / FIRESとは
FIRES stands for Families, Intercommunication, Relationships, Experiences, Services. It is a series of two-day spiritual programmes of witness, reflection, sharing and prayer, created by Fr Gabriel Calvo, the founder of Marriage Encounter. The programmes help married couples, sons and daughters, families, engaged couples, individuals, priests and religious build more honest and loving relationships with themselves, with their families, with others and with God. They began within the Catholic Church and are open to anyone who sincerely wants to encounter self, others and God.
FIRESは Families（家族）、Intercommunication（通じ合い）、Relationships（関係）、Experiences（体験）、Services（奉仕）の頭文字です。マリッジ・エンカウンターの創始者ガブリエル・カルボ神父によってつくられた、証し・内省・分かち合い・祈りによる二日間の霊的プログラムです。夫婦、親子、家族、婚約者、個人、司祭・修道者が、自分自身と、家族と、人々と、そして神様と、より正直で愛に満ちた関係を築くことを目的としています。カトリック教会の中で始まりましたが、自分自身・他者・神様と真剣に出会いたいと願うすべての方に開かれています。
Fr Gabriel Calvo, founder / 創始者 ガブリエル・カルボ神父
Fr Gabriel Calvo was born in Spain in 1927, studied at the University of Salamanca and was ordained a priest in 1952. A member of the Diocesan Labourer Priests, he devoted his ministry to marriage and the family. He led the first Marriage Encounter in Barcelona in 1961 with twenty-eight working-class couples, began Marriage Retorno in 1967, and in 1974 founded FIRES in the United States. He wrote several books and twelve FIRES manuals, many of them translated into other languages.
ガブリエル・カルボ神父は1927年スペインに生まれ、サラマンカ大学で学び、1952年に司祭に叙階されました。教区労働者司祭会（DLP）の会員として、叙階以来、結婚と家庭のための奉仕に携わりました。1961年にバルセロナで28組の労働者階級の夫婦とともに最初のマリッジ・エンカウンターを行い、1967年にマリッジ・レトルノを始め、1974年にアメリカでFIRESを創立しました。FIRESのマニュアル12冊のほか何冊かの本を著し、その多くが各国語に翻訳されています。
FIRES in Japan / 日本のFIRES
For many years FIRES Japan was led by Fr Donnon Murray OFM of the Franciscan Chapel Center in Roppongi, Tokyo. He was Fr Calvo’s close collaborator, and in 2003 Fr Calvo appointed him to lead FIRES across Asia and Europe. Fr Donnon guided FIRES programmes in Japan and in many other countries, and compiled the testimonies of those who took part.
FIRES Japanは長年、東京・六本木のフランシスカン・チャペルセンターのフランシスコ会司祭ダナン・マーリー神父（Fr Donnon Murray OFM）によって導かれてきました。ダナン神父はカルボ神父の最大の協力者であり、2003年にはカルボ神父からアジアとヨーロッパ全体の責任者に任命されました。日本をはじめ多くの国でFIRESのプログラムを指導し、参加者の証しを編集されました。
In memoriam: Fr Donnon Murray OFM (†2020) / 追悼 ダナン・マーリー神父（2020年帰天）
Fr Donnon returned to the Father in 2020. We remember him with a loving prayer and great thanks for his service to help families and evangelisation in Japan and other countries.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
ダナン神父は2020年に御父のもとへ召されました。日本をはじめ各国で家族と福音宣教のために尽くされたその奉仕に深く感謝し、愛をこめて祈りのうちに神父を思い起こします。
主よ、永遠の安息を彼に与え、絶えざる光を彼の上に照らしたまえ。彼の安らかに憩わんことを。アーメン。
The FIRES programmes / プログラム
- Original Marriage Encounter / マリッジ・エンカウンター: for couples married over three years, to renew their marriage through honest, open communication.
- Marriage Re-Encounter / マリッジ・リ・エンカウンター: deepens the Marriage Encounter experience to include reconciliation with children.
- Marriage Retorno / マリッジ・レトルノ: for experienced couples, an encounter with God through the encounter with self.
- Engaged Encounter / 婚約者・エンカウンター: helps engaged couples review and deepen their relationship before marriage.
- Sons & Daughters Encounter (SADE) / サデー・エンカウンター（若者のエンカウンター）: for young people, to encounter themselves, their families and God.
- Family Encounter and Family Communication Workshop / ファミリー・エンカウンター、ファミリー・コミュニケーション・ワークショップ: for parents and children together.
- Self Encounter / セルフ・エンカウンター: for anyone, single, married, widowed or divorced, of any age.
- Priest Encounter / 司祭・エンカウンター and Eucharistic Encounter / 聖体・エンカウンター: for priests and religious, and for all who want to deepen their love of the Holy Eucharist.
