The Synod on synodality continues. The General Secretariat of the Synod has set a path that leads to an Ecclesial Assembly with the Pope in the Vatican in October 2028.

The first step is local. In the first half of 2027, every diocese and eparchy is to hold an evaluation assembly called “Recollecting”. This is not a new worldwide consultation. Each local church rereads, with gratitude, the path it has walked since the Final Document of the 2021–2024 Synod, and names the further conversion still needed. Each assembly produces a narrative report and a letter to the other churches, which are sent to the Synod secretariat by 30 June 2027.

Bishops’ conferences hold their own assemblies in the second half of 2027. Continental assemblies follow in the first four months of 2028.

In Japan: the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Japan has published Japanese translations of the guiding documents. If you would like to take part, ask your parish how your diocese will prepare its assembly.
